High Plains Book Awards 2009
Thirteen books have been selected as finalists for the 2009 High Plains Book Awards. All of the books were published for the first time in 2008 and written by a regional author or writing team, or is a literary work which examines and reflects life on the High Plains. Nominations were received from 20 publishers and several individuals in the US and Canada.
The finalists have been selected in five categories: Best Fiction; Best Nonfiction; Best First Book and the Zonta Best Woman Writer Award. A new award has been added this year honoring the Best Poetry.
Graduate of both Dartmouth and John Hopkins University, Native American author Louise Erdrich has been named the 2009 Emeritus Award Writer. In her journey as an author, Erdrich has penned twelve novels, multiple volumes of poetry, children’s books and even a memoir about her early motherhood experiences. Her novel, The Plague of Doves, appeared on The New York Time’s Best Seller list and Love Medicine, her debut book, won the National Book Critics Award.
